Hi Everyone,
I have a ten year old hermanns called Star who I rehomed a couple of years ago. He is absolutely tiny (Plastron is about 5 inches) and has a very slight overshot lower jaw. He was incubated and kept in a plant proagater with no light or UV for a number of years with his first owner and has a lumpy shell. Then he was put with 5 other male tortoises (by his second owner) who were alot faster and alot bigger and fed on iceburg and cucumber. When I got him I was told he couldn't feed himself cos of his jaw etc. I put his food in a shallow dish with large stones in the bottom and after a couple of weeks his overgrown beak was nice and trim and he was gobbling down weeds like nobodies business. He was checked over by a vet who could see know further problems. He has had 2 successful hibernations and is doing just fine. I would really like to see him move on now to a permenant home where he won't be bullied or given the wrong conditions (he seems to prefer being outside). He needs to find the perfect home at last...he deserves it. You can see photos of Star at tortoisenutter The photos were taken a few years ago and at that time we thought Star was a girl...he is not If anyone is interested please email me privately...I live in the Nottingham area and he would have to be collected. Sarah x
