The animals whom the cells to be cloned are taken from are not harmed whatsoever, it is that the animals produced by cloning are as yet not particularly successful

That said.

Perhaps mankind would be better accepting their mistakes rather than trying to clone their way out of it???

It would be of absolutely no benefit to produce a group of genetically identical animals purely so humans can feel like they saved the day and gawp at them.

Lonesome George's species is, to all intents and purposes already extinct, even if they miraculously found one other individual, two founders leaves you with nothing but a genetic bottleneck.

As a conservationist and chelonia lover, the scenes with George brought a tear to my eye, honestly devastating to think of these things
