at my local zoo we had our own version of lonesome george. martha the passenger pigeon. they had her on display in the repitle house years ago... she's about the epitome of wrecklessness.

Probably worth buying the DVD of the whole series as I dont think you can save from iplayer.

Fortunately I don't think Lonesome George is that bothered about his lack of mate or the fact his subspecies is facing extinction but you're right it is a crying shame. It's worse in the Indian Ocean - At least 5 ( probably more) species of Giant Tortoise were wiped out by the 19th Century - happily the Aldabra's are doing well.
