Aww man, the coverage of him on Life in Cold Blood brought tears to my eyes, poor soul without a mate. I remember years ago, at least 15-16yrs, in Biology covering evolution on the Galapagos islands and the tortoises with the curved carapace and those with the niche out to raise their necks to feed - I had no idea they were that endangered. It makes me ashamed to be part of the human race, seeing a whole sub species wiped out. Gonna tune in...

It actually made me really sad. I remember I used to think there would be another tortoise in a zoo somewhere.. but now, well I doubt there is. Imagine being that alone? The complete last of your bloodline/species.

At least he is getting well looked after... is there not another thread on this? :P

I'd be depressed if i was the last of my kind. didnt they try to mate him with some other species to make sub species, but he wasnt interested
