Nope you are not getting the wrong bulb at all. I use the 40w or 60w reflector spot lights depending on the time of year... Normally use the 60w with my leopard torts. I buy my bulbs from Wilkinsons normally and it is about £1 for 2!! Makes you wonder what profit all those reptile and farm shops are making doesn't it!

I heard that you can use normal spotlights but was unsure!! Apparently Ikea is also good for getting the actual lamps....

Thanks for all the advice guys. When I have the cage/habitat, Iwill see which of the 2 options mentionedis more appropriate.

Unless your cage/habitat is large the best option is to go for the separate UV and basking bulb, or the torts won't be able to find a cool area.

And yes, normal spot lights are fine, I actually use the ones which have the silver back... Don't know if they all have that or not. And any lamp holder should do the trick

Just a quick question to all who have spur thighs (testudo gracea Ibera)...

Do you use 10% or % uv lighting? I know most places seem to use 10% but have seen an article which mentioned that 5% is better 9cant find it or would post the link) and a know of breeders only using 5% with a reflector (which may of course account for the additional uv needed).

Any thoughts? (Have found a breeder not so far away who has some spurs and so think that is what I am gonna go for tbh).

I am of course gonna see what he uses but cant get in touch with him today so am being impatient and asking you guys!!!

Thanks

Just been to "instore" and they have clip on lights for £3 and it says on the back a max wattage of 60 - will this be ok or does it need to have a "shade" around it if you know what I mean . By "shade" I mean the thing that surounds the back of the bulb. God I cant explain what I mean!!!

It was like this:

Masterplug Clip On Light from Halfords Price £4.99

Would this be ok? Of course I mean in conjunction with a uv strip light... Also, how many of you use a thermostat with your spotlights?

Thanks

Thats fine in my opinion, no need for thermostats.

Also you an get 60W mega rays so I doubt an enclosure would get too hot.
