Default Got New Tortoise!

Hey,

Just got new Horsfield tortoise and he is soooooo cute! Tiny compared to what i thought (he's a juvenile)...

He seems very determined to get out and at the moment he is in his hide... making his bed i think

Congratulations

Don't forget that Horsfields love to dig and would live in tunnels. So they need a deep substrate

I get fed up with washing my hands all the time, they get so dry and sore, so I now use anti bacterial hand wash sometimes as well, you can get it from the supermarkets and chemists

Well I have had torts for 5 years, and dogs all my life, and you know how people would like you to believe what germ ridden things they are! There must have been many a time I have forgotten to wash my hands after doing the torts or cleaning up after the dogs and I am still here! Don't think I have ever caught anything off any of them!

Charlie... Altho not checked whether its boy or girl yet (not that i would be able to tell anyway probably) and he is sleeping now anyway and want to let him settle in before i start taking pics of his underside to see or whatever...

This is my first pet after fish (which we werent too good at lol) so im like an excited child (altho i am a child.... sort of)

Nice name... you won't be able to sex him/her for a few years yet so a good choice for either.

I wouldn't worry about salmonella... I keep geckos and a tort and have never caught anything of any of them... good hand washing using anti-bacterial soap and you'll be fine. The anti-bac you can use without water is good to have too and you can keep that next to your tort table.
