Default who hibernates?

I was just wondering who does and who doesnt.
I think this is a debatable subject in this section like sand is in the lizards section, so no arguing please lol.

If you DONT hibernate, have you ever had any health issues?

Thanks.

Personally, I don't

However, my torts hibernate

They wind down for about 4 weeks, longer for Yanni as she's fat, and shorter for the Jersey Sanctuary babies, and then go into the fridge.

The bigger torts got around 16 weeks this year, and the jersey babies got just over 9 weeks! All have started gaining their weight back and have ventured outside to bask in the sun on most days!

I think I timed the hibernation for my biggies just right this year!

Lol.

Is hibernation 100% neccesary to keep a tort healthy?
Surely they only do it as it gets too cold for them, but if they are kept warm then what is the problem?

Yes I hibernate my torts. I think it is the best for them as they seem to have so much energy once they are awake again.

Although it seems a scary thing to do at first, it is actually quite easy and safe if you do it right. My Hermann's have never lost more than 2g each when they have been in hibernation

My adults are still in hibernation...

I have hibernated baby torts as young as 4 months of age...

I hibernated several torts ranging from approx. 1+ to 3+ years of age, for a duration of 12 weeks from November 07 to Feb 08...T.T.

So what happens, how do you know when to start and when to stop?
Can I check its still alive during hibernation?
Do they show signs of starting themselves?
