Depends where you get a young tortoise from.
Young tortoises have the same requirements as an adult.
A good breeder will not let a tortoise go until they are 100% confident you will look after it properly, they will give you lot of advise before you buy and after.

ok kool just wonderd as i was warned off buying young en's
this was jackie peterson from stockotn who advised me? shes suposed to be the best exotic vet around? my area that it,

Adults can get just as ill if you dont get everything right.
My first tortoise was an ibera, i got her when i was 16. She was a year old, she is now laying eggs for me.
