Surely there must be a lot more different fruits and berries available in the rainforest environment than a dry desert environment.Even things such as mushrooms which would only really grow in humid places.

I feed fruit in the not much and not very often theme.

Probably 2-3 times a week and never exclusively. They have greens at the same time. i.e. they can not just fill up on fruit, they have a bit and then eat the greens. The babies will get something like a 5mm slice of pear or something between them

I'd call that reasonable and important information.

I've only been as far as Costa Rica so I have an idea what tropical is even though that is not Red Foot range.

I have also been to St. Croix... which is RF range.

Then I have photos of St John... habitat and RFs... Paraguay... habatit and RFs... in addition to accounts of friends who have been throughout their range.

These are the accounts I use to form an opinion of what might be good to provide to a RF... then... I look for natural history accounts in litterature... the older stuff is better because they are usually natural history observations...

The point is... tropical can be very different than what is commonly pictured.

Redfoots... as most tortoises... will eat anything... especially if it is moving.

Good point. I had forgotten that some (maybe just the one) sites advise fruit only days. Not a good idea.

I wonder if they had alternate fruit days then leaves only days they'd start eating less greens on the other days and wait for the fruit day. Such as a tortoise not eating the offered greens when switching from a really bad diet. Just thinking out loud....

I like the idea of percentages... which... are totally made up by people... and not really based on any actually research... the number I like is 5% fruit for any tortoise.
