Cool Fruit For Red Foots

Here is a small list of fruit I have tried, with the results. If anyone can advise that would be top notch!

Red Apple (Washington Redskin) : I peeled the skin off, and he eventually ate it

Red Grapes : No chance

Green grapes : No chance

Satsuma : Again eventually, but he munched his weeds first and came back later, had a good sniff, walked off, came back and then ate it. I have been advised that they love satsumas, but I think that a satsuma may be too acidic. It has taken a few weeks to get him to try it (Not the same piece)

Water Melon : Man he loves water melon. Id love to be able to give him a quarter of a water melon just to see how excited he would get.

Tomato : (It is a fruit) He likes tomato. I usually only give half a cherry tomato once a week as I have been advised not to give too much tomato.

Any thoughts?

Hi just like people tortoises have different likes and dislikes and also it is what they sometimes get used to and then aquire a taste for it.My redfoots love grapes and I know the breeder says they love orange too but I havn't given them any yet I may do this week,I like to avoid acidic fruits myself.Mine don't seem keen on apple but go mad for very ripe soft sweet fruits like plum and strawberry.I only feed fruits twice a week to my two.My smallest one loves banana but he is only allowed a small amount. The bigger one has a few mouthfulls and moves along lol so they are all different. Also the only way I can get any calcium into them (don't laugh) is by giving them half a prawn each dipped in it LOL.They will kill for half a prawn bless them.

Oh and they love tomato too but again only give them a small amount.

You have kind of answered a question I was going to ask in another thread, what sort of meat should I give her? I think the old view was to give cat or dog food, but I want to stay away from processed meat. Ive seen footage of a red foot eating a dead chick. I was wondering if a piece of lean chicken breast would be ok?
I will try a prawn this evening. I have loads in the freezer.
My tort does not like calcium powder either. I have a very fine brush (A squirrel mop) and I brush it on the underside of her weeds. A bit on every leaf.

I was told banana was bad as it contains potassium???? Although A tort does not know that and I cant imagine a tort turning up the chance to munch on a banana in the wild.

Yes banana is given very sparingly and not very often but once a month as a treat is fine in my opinion. My two would kill for a prawn just thaw it out in hot water first and see if he likes it.You can try types of fish and chicken, bits of chicken liver etc but not cooked or lightly boiled. This is only my opinion and ideas others may say different.Make sure though that he gets plenty of weeds and greens etc for fibre too.Mine like hibiscus plants I got them from the garden centre.I got the outdoor type and the houseplant type too.
