I don't know a whole lot about Egyptians...

Here's a pair...

Here's every breeders dream...

What it looked like when it came out...

I don't have a photo of me crying over the mistakes I've made...

Just curious, what are the european shows like Hamm like for tortoises..does anybody know? I know imports of mor common species such as hermanns and horsfields are rife, but are any of the rarer species found there..or is it the same situation, ie wild caught/captive farmed?
That a very good question - I'm hoping we can ask next week. Dozens of people from this forum are going. The alternative in breeders in france or germany - they have a larger tortoise 'scene'. My prob is I don't spk (or write ) german or french.

I am going to Hamm this weekend and we be on the lookout, I did manage to locate some Egyptians for sale last year in Switzerland but as it is not in the EU I could not import them, same with the US.

chances are there probably won't be. I was just thinking as there will be (i imagine) alot of the european breeders there, they may either have some at home or know of breeders. was probably a long shot on my part though.

There are quite a few breeders of Egyptians in Europe. Most are purists so don't put them in the trade. That's not a bad thing. That means there is enough networking that they don't need to be put in the trade... but it would be wonderful if the animal is produced in the numbers that it could be... like the Sulcata... Leopard a close second... Redfoot is probably second right now.

Greeks... marginateds... russians... don't really count in this discussion... they've been bred forever in captivity.

Yeah, will do. I don't expect to see any there for sale but I will be able to ask around the german tort breeders. My boyfriend speaks german so that is a big help.

Not that you were asking me but I thought I'd interject a point.

Many tortoise keepers stress weeds... Egyptians are unique in that they seem to process foods to an extreme... to save moisture. This is why you see the white 'urates' so often with these. This is not only urates but salts. I'll bet a good percentage of these critters die to renal failure due to a specialized adaptation that we don't fully understand... leading to their downfall.

For those keeping these... think about it.
