oo dave thinking of getting a tortoise? Is this to get the mrs on side in regards to the reptiles? hows max's sister doing btw? and hows your brb, is it a nippy bugger like mine?

also although sarah's prices are right, you tend to get hermanns and horsfields cheaper if you source a UK breeder. the shops tend to inflate the prices somewhat.

If you're undecided about which to get, i'd go with a hermanns simply because of the burrowing needs of a horsfield. Although they can live indoors, it involves a table that at adulthood would be at least 2ft deep (i'd say personally)in order to provide them with a deep enough substrate to form tunnels in. Many breeders don't like to sell horsfields to owners that keep them indoors for this reason.

You still in your flat btw hun? Just thinking of size restraints as you'd need at the bare minimum for an adult a 4 x 4 table..n i mean minimum.

A tortoise will burrow if it feels the need. This can be removed by providing a secure hiding place.

WC animals go way less than that... sex has no bearing on those animals.

WC babies?????

In the states you can find adult russians... imports... $39 USD, that's roughly 20 pounds.

There is a breeder here in the US who was trying to get over $200 each for his babies... I don't think so.

I personally charge high for my babies (not russians) because I don't care if I sell them or not. That's what they are worth to me.

Yes Ed its mad isnt it. Thats why we say go to a breeder much cheaper also.
But saying that i have seen adult male horsfields in lots of pet shops recently for £100 all claiming to be 3-4 years old when they are much older.

That's exactly the point. Imports are cheaper.

Now... what we need to do is try and get these imports established. I promise you... these imports will not last. These will be our founding stock.

Think of the big picture.

I would'nt be suprised if in 10 -15 years time the import debate will be largely irrelevant but then again fashions change & people will want different species which will keep the importers busy.
