Default Would this work?

Hello. I know some of you are aware that my son, Tomcat, has two red footed tortoises, Bill & Ben!

Anyway, most evenings they are out and about somewere in the reptile room instead of being in their table, and they seem to be alot more active and 'happy' out rather than in the table. I am soon to be making them a new table, and was wandering that if i cut a small 'door' into the side to allow them to come and go from the table as they wish, would that be ok? The table will obviously be heated, and they tend to go back to the table now, via the ramp i built, to warm up and bask under the UVB lighting an then venture back out.

What do you tort fokes think about it? The room is totaly tort proof as i found out they do like to have a chew and things.

Thank-you, Tony.

I personally would say no.
No matter how many people say they keep there floor clean you can keep it that clean, what about germs transfered by foot?

If i were you i would make a bigger enclosure or make your old one more exciting.

They enjoy being out on the floor because its somewhere new they are exploring.

Make it more exciting for them, add some upside down plant pots they have to walk around them to see whats over the other side, breaks up the sight lines.

Some bits of wood etc have a look here Shelled Warriors :: View topic - Inside enclosures - add your pictures

Hi, i have just thought, people let their tortoises outside in the garden, where cats can poo and wee and surely thats got more germs in than my clean socks?

It's actually a novel idea but I'll bet other herpers are doing this.

Redfoots are better than most in returning to 'home'. The 'scat' problem is going to be your greatest concern.

For those of us who have a 'Reptile Room' this is a neat idea which I have not considered.

I gotta decide who has the run of the room.

How strange is that?
Today...as I was hoovering and washing floors...I thought."my floors are a damned sight cleaner than my garden...so why all this about dont let your tort around the house"
I figured that it was yet another myth...perpetuated by stories passed along...such as the tort who ate the staple...could have ate worse things outdoors....maybe it was outdoors.
I am not suggesting all and sundry go out there and do it..but its a consideration. After an appropriate Health and Safety Assessment!

hoovering = using a vacuum cleaner
