No hatchling, to achieve that scale with adults those tanks would need to be about 20ft long!

I don't really have any photos that show the whole setup, but in summer mine live in a purpose built 1800 litre pond in the garden, and in the winter they currently have an indoor pool of approx 600 litres that can be dismantled when they go outdoors, I also have a couple of tanks mainly used for quarantine purposes.

All my setups are in a constant state of improvement, so any photos I have tend to be out of date!

So do you have different species kept together then? Or do you just keep one species as you only have one pond in the winter, and one in the summer? There are several species I like the look of and am just wondering where I can go with them. Obviously on my journey I'm going to uncover more species , but for now I like razor back musks, snake necks (and I know they wouldn't really live them but-) Snappers.

I have three species, the seven Southern Painteds and a Florida Red Belly are kept together, my little Musk is a new arrival and is to small to be put with the others for now, at less than 1" SCL it would be lost in a pond! So for now it's in a small tank of its own, until it gets big enough to join the others.

Just be aware that Musks and Snake Necks require different conditions so aren't really compatible, it's also quite likely they wouldn't get along anyway. A Snapper of course can't be kept with anything else.

Whats SCL stand for? Shell complete length? Do you breed yours Graham? Would it be possible for you to get pictures of the indoor and outdoor setups as its these I'm really interested in. If I were to get a snapper baby, would he be happy with something floating to bask on or would it need a secure platform or something (in a tank scenario) Its the whole how do I set up a tank thing I don't get as I imagine the average width of a tank would be too small to house a turtle properly. <---- Did anyone uinderstand that or did I just waffle?!

SCL = Straight Carapace Length, you measure them the same as you do tortoises.

I'll have a look through my photos and see what I can find, it's not a good time of year to take photos of the pond as it looks a bit of a mess atm! I have quite a bit of work to do to it before they go out as I plan to add a large reedbed filter for this year.

I don't really know much about keeping snappers, best to ask someone who's got one.

Its really the habitat you keep though isn't it - get that right and the animal thrives - with a snapper you just need to keep your hands outta the way! Thats great of you getting pictures for me. I just want to have a clear idea in my head of what i need to do. Is there anyone here who keeps turtles near me that would be willing to let me have a look at your set-ups? That would bee brill. Ben

Got it in one! If you can provide a suitable size tank with adequate filtration and the correct lighting, then you have a very good chance of keeping your turts happy and healthy. There's a bit more to it of course, such as diet, tank furnishings etc..., but that's easy once you have the basic setup right.

This is what I keep my Easten Painted in for the summer. In the winter I take her inside in a little 60 gal indoor pond.
