The breeder told me that I could go with that for now.

It was meant to read 5 and a half foot by 3 and a half foot. I dont use a tank she is in a wardrobe on its back. I will try and post some photos so you can see what I mean

Hi,

That viv is really too small to house a redfoot for long. If it's something you have already and want to use for a short length of time (weeks to months) then it would be ok for a hatchling. If you are thinking of buying this size specifically for a redfoot then don't. Really you need as big as you can find space for.

My yearlings are about 11cm long, not including head. The space you are proposing is roughly 3 sheets of A4 paper laid out next to each other. Draw an 11cm circle and see how much you have left. Once you have the hide and water bowl in there, theres not much space left.

That viv will not last you long.

I have my Cherry Head Redfoot hatchling in a 75 gal. vivarium. It holds the humidity really well. I planted some plants in there, and when you water them, it keeps the humidity up. It will be fine for at least two years...so the breeder told me. There is plenty of ventilation as the top is open, except for the long tube light, and heat emitter.

Whats the footprint of your vivarium? Cherryheads can be slower growing then other redfoots.

Might you both have been in contact with the same breeder? terryo and OP that is. Don't know where OP is.

I am sorry, I don't know what footprint means. If you mean how long it is and wide....it is 4 ft. long and almost 2 ft. wide.

Thats what I meant. So your set up has nearly 4 times as much floor space as the 2ft long by 1 foot deep viv the OP was talking about. (Assuming the 12inch was front to back not height)

Your set up looks great by the way Terryo. Very pretty tortoise in there too! I've even scattered some seeds in with mine to see what happens. (I'm expecting trampling and then for them to dissapear as soon as they sprout - I'll ask the babies what happened - and I bet they deny everything!)

Terryo

Your cherry head and the set up are lovely. I know there's a large cherry head breeding facility on Barbados, is that where most of the ones available in the States are from or are they readily available from local breeders too?

Mine was from a breeder on Kingsnake. He spends most of his days sitting under the pansies now. Today I started a big one for outside. It should be planted and finished by next week. I won't put him outside until it is warmer though. It is still cold here. Brrrrrrr.....
