Default Help please..

...Just changed my Torts bedding from this pellet stuff to hemp. Is there anything I need to know about hemp? I have just filled Yoshi's tort table with it without doing anything to it...

Cheers, Ben.

when you feed him make sure his food is on a slate or ceramic dish. helps to stop him ingesting any substrate and will help keep his beak looking trim! same should be done for all substrates eccept maybe hay and readigrass as this is good for them. a little bit of substrate being eaten by accident wont normally do any hamr but over time it can cause an impaction and leave him needing vet treatment.

hi i have found that hemp is excellent substrate in particular for spot cleaning unfortunately this does mean it is very dehydrateing so you will need to ensure hatchlings are bathed daily for the first 12 months then every other day after that also ensure they have fresh clean water available at all times.

Garden centres and diy places will have it... a slate tile will be fine if you can't find anything else.

A good way to keep the humidity up in the table is by attaching a piece of sponge (kept moist) to the top of any hides you have in there. Obviously need to attach it with some waterproof glue like araldite (sp).

There is not a problem with using Hemp at all. Even if they ingest a little it will normally pass straight through if you have good temperatures and a healthy animal to begin with.

Terrys suggestion is the best one but you can also make sure there is water available daily even for hatchlings. You can use a jar lid, small plant saucer (burried into the substrate... 3 inch dia saucer... shallow) or if you are the handy type you can cut the bottom of a jar to the proper height you need.

I like the stuff because the little ones seem comfortable in it.
