I've been looking into MV bulbs recently and a breeder recommended that I get a Megaray, I am using a Powersun at the moment. Any ideas where the best place to buy them is?

i use powersun and have considered switching to mega ray in the past. This siteh Mega-Ray® & ReptileUV Products is great to learn all about them as they can be a very complicated and expensive system to setup. it depend on self ballast or external ballast. I have been told that the megaray can not be rellied on as a basking lamp as the required height needs to be outside the zone that would produce heat, but the 80w heat emmitters are quite well recomended. let me know how you get on and weather you decide to do it.

kimbo's reptile world is the place i use its run by Dazza who posts on this site, my leopard juveniles use a 160w powersun and my med juveniles the same, i also have a100w powersun for my med hatchlings and recently Dazza started stocking the megaray so my leopard hatchlings are under a 100w megaray , i am seeing excellent activity i cant really comment on growth as this is the first year i have used them, but they all seem more active than when i was useing seperate heatlamps and uvb tubes and when i can afford it i will be getting 2x 275w megaray for the shed (adult leopards) my 100w are set at 12inches above the basking slates and the 160w at 18 inches .all of these are plug in with an inline switch so are really simple to set up.

Terry I was advised not to use a combined bulb for hatchlings as their enclosure would be too small to get the correct microclimates... have you had any problems with this?

I was told to research it before i used them myself in a hatchling enclosure. If you check out the uv guide site then it gives you tons of info regading the uv projection and how far the heat penetrates into any given space etc. If you have a nosey on there it will put your mind at reat as long as your enclouse/table is bigger than the predicted uv range. My tiny tort enclosure was always bigger than a single bed so a 160w combined did the job well. Just put plenty of hides in and misted daily.

hi tina i havent had a problem with mine as my tables for my meds hatchlings are joined together with the bulb over the centre division
the total area of table with a 100w powersun over the centre is 60inches x 18 inches then when they move on after the next years hatch the juvenile pens total size with a 160w over the centre division is 60inches x 72 inches my juvenile leopards have a 160w powersun at one end their indoor pen is 36inches x 72 inches i have a single 100w megaray over the centre of my leopard hatchlings table the area of this is 16 inches x 60 inches. all these are located in my tortoise room in the cellar it is heated to an over night minimum of 18c with a rise in the day to around 22c thanks to all the heat lamps being on. in the summer months they are outdoors most days.

Thanks for the info, I've decided to stick with Powersun for now. I like the fact that I don't need an extra heat source with it, my torts love basking under it.
