Default Extremely Urgent!!!

My two baby hermanns-7 months and 8 months accidently ate one primula flower. Aren't these poisonous? Will they be ok? They have been bathed and have been to the toilet and generally seem ok.

Very worried!!

I've seen primula vulgaris listed on edible plant lists for tortoises so I'm sure they'll be okay.

Remove the poisonous plants from their enclosure. Assuming tortoises won't eat something toxic is quite dangerous- I know one tortoise that makes a beeline for Fox gloves (Digitalis purpurea) and they are extremely toxic, and the tortoise was very very ill.

God, I should give myself a pat on the back for remembering the latin name, I'm usually crap with plants

Forgot to say- I'm sure primula vulgaris is listed as toxic, I will ask Martin Dann to be sure, but I've always avoided it... Would be handy to have some extra tort food as I have quite a bit of it in the garden.

Here's a link to the list that it's on Josh:

Edible Landscaping

Please let us know though if Martin thinks differently as I know he's incredibly knowledgeable.

I must admit I've never fed it to my tort though as it's not one that appears on most edible plant lists.

Have asked on the Tortoise nutrition group. I've always avoided it, but will let you know what they say.

I would love it if they could eat it as there is quite alot in my garden

Not seriously toxic, Josh, but it does appear on some "toxic for pets"
lists so I avoid it.

Thanks Josh... so it's another one of those plants that there's differing opinions on. I tend to avoid any that there is even a slight risk with tbh... I stick to the 'better to be safe than sorry' philosophy!

At least the OP knows for sure now that her torts won't suffer any adverse affects from eating them but they're best avoided.
