Just saw this on the Pets at Home website and thought it might come in handy as a way to move hatchlings indoors and outdoors easily - and they'd be protected from predators.
I wish I could build some of the amazing things that are on this thread - but this might prove a temporary measure.

Hi

I have just finished my outside enclosures for my Hermann girls and my Whitei's Alfie and Isabelle.

They have one end blocked off still as i am growing grass, i also still have a few bits to add.

They have a mesh top, that i painted with black gloss, so to see inside clearer.

I hope you like them

Looks ace! Might be worth while turfing instead of seed? Sorry if I misunderstood.

Hi,

I could not find a single supplier of turf, that did not use weed killer and lawn feed to make it, which is very harmful to torts but thanks for the idea

I don't know about others, but my 2 Hermans are not big diggers, they push down a bit and ruffle the soil up to cool themelves, but thats about it - however can never be to sure/safe i guess.

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share my outdoor enclosure for my Horsfields.
We built it earlier this year. I dug some of the original top soil out so that I could line the bottom equally with mesh so I know they can't escape! We built the frame and then added the orginal top soil back in, but had to buy some more to give it about a 6 inch depth. We then lay some turf, and added a few hidey places and their water plate/feed slate etc. I've fixed the (large I know) cold frame to a sunken wooden subframe so that it won't blow off, and to make it animal proof (as well as our dog there are a few cats in the area), and finished it off with a hinged chicken wire roof. (That's pitched to try and stop the dog jumping on top and its also hinged on the garden side for ease of opening)
I've bought some grasses to be planted once I wash off their roots etc and some potted succulents (you may spot those lurking in the pic!)
I hope you all like it, Milo and Fizz seem to!

Hello. I have a small (5cm) Hermanni, I've built an outdoor small yard (1.3x1.3m) and a few hidings but my tort only hides half burried into ground; when housed into the indoor enclosure, she (he) sleeped into a cup every night. I put this cup also into the outdoor yard, but she only burries, never enters the hidings by herself. Is this OK? These days were quite rainy and wet, and I know it's not quite OK to sit onto wet ground. The temperature is 25-30*C durng the day and 18*C at night.
