i have terrapins and my current tank is 30" by "12 and i have 1 sun glow basking lamp. now my question is that iv read on here that u need a uv lamp but pet shop i bought it from sed i dnt need 1. the tank i have has no hood so the basking light i have just sticks on the side of the tank and shines down on the basking area. do i need this uv lamp and if i do how do u suggest i go bout fitting 1 since i have no hood.

Yes you do need a UVB lamp, the best solution for you would probably be to get a compact UVB and mount it in a Clamp Lamp.

Good to hear that you don't have a hood on the tank though!
