hi i think most captive born tortoises dont really require expert care.yet they do require care and facilities to suit their individual needs. if you are serious about getting a tortoise i would read up as much as possible on the species that are available as captive born hatchlings and see what suits your time and personal situation best.when you have decided what type you prefer ask again and i feel sure there will be keepers and breeders of the species on this forum that can point you in the right direction.

I don't think you can acctually class any of them as a begginers one, best thing to do is read up on the ones mentioned and then decide on the type you feel able to accomodate, I have all spur thighed so obviously think they're the best but maybe not the easiest, but when you think I have a 55 yr old and a 90 yr old....hmmm well!! Good luck with what you choose, and I'm sure you will be fine. Sue
