Default 4x2x2 max viv?

Could any tortoise possibly fit in a viv of maximum size of 4x2x2 i have read care sheets about "horsefield, hermann, and reds" but non of the care sheets actually state what size vivs they can be kept in or whether they are best to be kept outside totally.

Thanks

That size viv (as long as it had more ventilation than a normal viv - for instance an open top - and the glass was blocked out around the torts line of sight) would be okay for hatchlings and small juveniles but not fully grown imo.

You would need a safe, secure outdoor enclosure as well for the warmer months.

Also i was considering going for a rabit hutch style design with some plants etc in the back garden for the summer months Would this be okay?

Tortoise tables are my preference but I know some people do use modified vivs with success... but they do need to be modified.

There is a thread in the newbie section which gives links to some really useful sites for keeping med torts. It has info on tables, feeding, selecting a tort, husbandry etc:

MED TORTOISES... useful links

And why is ventilation important? And why does the glass have to be blocked? Why block the glass if the toroise is not bothered by it. The point being is that if the tortoise is not stressed... why do it?

Have you seen the Egyptians at the London Zoo? The babies could easily live out their long natural life in the viv I saw them in (if they still have them).

(just another opinion on vivs).

ventillation is important because in the wild, they would have constant fresh air, without adequate ventillation the air will be 'stale' and alot of humidity will also build up.
EVERY tortoise I've met has never been able to cope with see through barriers- such as cold frames without a opaque base, fish tanks, Perspex and other see through things, like netting.

Just speaking my experience
