Default What age would you put young torts out all summer

I am looking to build a enclosure outside for my torts this year but im not sure if they are old enough to stay out day and night.

Obviously I would aim to put a heat source out there and a UV if needed.

They are aged 2yrs and 1 yr.

Are they too young to have enclosures built?

Should I just put them out in pens that I can move around the garden?

I'm having an outdoor enclosure built (with a netted lid and a hide area) for Saphie... she'll be 1 in August.

Her breeder advised me not to leave her outside all day on her own until I'm certain she's learnt to bask properly and won't get too cold and certainly not all day until around the end of May when I'm out in the day.

I can put heat in the hide area but I won't be leaving her outside overnight this year.

That sounds like a good idea Tina.

I cant really start on an enclosure until our extension has been built as I want to have it as close to the house as possible. Fingers crossed that will all be finished by the end of July.

Until then I will have to make do with pens that I can move around the garden when I am out there with them.

If you can have heat, then they can be outside when it starts to warm up abit as its still cold.

Are you having 2 seperate 'runs' side by side? Its really good fun to build the enclosures. Good luck

Cool. Thanks.

Um Im not sure, I suppose I will have two runs, although I would like them to be together for a while whilst they are young enough. I havent really got that far yet. Our extension starts in a couple of weeks, then we have to relay the patio

I could do them earlier if I was to put them further down the garden but I would really like to have them close to the house for safety and being able to have heat and light if needed.

I also want to make them big enough so that I can keep them well planted with edible plants and of course give them plenty of things to explore.

Im keeping a watch on everyones pics that they post of their enclosures so that I can get plenty of ideas.
