Default Wurtle ate a snail....!

I've just been to check that Wurtle's put himself to bed (he's outside now that things have warmed up a bit) and noticed that although he's not really eaten much of his weeds today he does appear to have chomped on a snail. I am only assuming he's eaten it and have no proof as such - but the remains of the shell and a small amount of what looks like snail innards are in his house, and he had a bit of shell on his face! clearly guilty I think

I just wondered if this is ok?

I know that if they were lacking in calcium they will try to munch on dead snail shells etc but he has limestone flour every day so I don't think it's that. Also he seems to have eaten most of the snail flesh too.

it's fine... yuck to us, but fine!

Terrific Tortoise posted some lovely pics of his torts eating slugs a little while back and I remember quite a few people saying theirs eat slugs and snails in the garden too.

Bless Wurtle... I bet he thought he was having a real treat.

Phew!
I panicked a bit there as wasn't sure if that was normal! Although having said that I've seen Bob eat woodlice so I don't know why I was surprised! hmm I may have to sent Wurtle loose in the garden then as the slugs are decimating out plants!!

Just make sure you don't use slug pellets anywhere in the garden

Yuck, I hate slugs

this is where some of the recomended "diet advice" is a little bit unknown and based on assumption. All of my leopards have been seen to eat worms, snails and slugs at various times. My hubby seems to think they actually look for them, and they get quite excited when they see snails and slugs, they march over and eat it as quick as they can. as tina said, EURGH! but they seem to quite enjoy the meaty treats. so maybe they are not STRICTLY herbivores after all! even if they just ate grass, they would accidentally ingest a few slugs and worms anyway, as do cows and horses. it would be interesting if we could work out just how much meat they actually consume as part of a normal grazing diet.
