Default Thinking of getting a turtle.

Im thinking of getting a turtle and ive allready got my rep room planned up for all the other things i want but i seriously want a turtle.
I'm not bothered about agressivness or anything, but a smaller tank would be better.
I have seen pictures of small tortoises that have been in kept in the large flat faunariums somewhere on the internet. If there any like that ill have 10 XD
Obviously i will read up loads but i've wanted a turtle for ages
Many thanks in advance.

Sorry for the essay XD

There are a number of smallish turtles you can get including Chinemys reevesi which has a good reputation as a hardy specimen, or the various North American Mud and Musk Turtles and the Painted Turtles (Chrysemys). Have you read up on many different species? The Bartlett and Bartlett book on Turtles is good (Barron's Pet Series) for less than a tenner and covers most of the available ones.

Also consider how aquatic or non-aquatic you want it.

What do you mean by a "flat faunarium" exactly? Most turtle species require large aquariums and fairly deep water.

Of the smaller species Painted Turtles are virtually unobtainable in the UK and have been for nearly a decade, unless you're lucky enough to find some adults for rehoming.

Muds are easier to get hold of but not exactly common, they are one of the less aquatic species but have a reputation of being a bit boring, they're not the most active of turtles and can spend long periods seemingly doing nothing at all!

Musks are more easily available, Common Musks in particular, they're an excellent beginner species, very hardy, requiring relatively little space, and quite active with very interesting behaviour patterns.

Didn't realise that about Painteds! Thanks for the info. I've seen German stuff in print on them so assumed they were available over here too.

I think CB Painteds are very occasionally available from a shop in Bournemouth (?), IIRC they are Eastern Painteds, otherwise they're almost impossible to get hold of.
I have seven Southern Painteds myself, one from a hatchling I bought 15 years ago, and the rest I've acquired as rehomers over the past year. It was sheer luck that I found the other six, it took years of scouring the classifieds by me and other keepers who knew I was looking for them.
There are breeders in Europe though, mainly in Holland and Germany, but it would mean a trip over there to buy them as I don't think anyone would ship them over, it's an expensive way to acquire a turt and you'd have to really want that species!
