Other than that your tank is nowhere near big enough, 4 or 5 litres of water is less than 1/10th of what a single hatchling turtle requires, this will result in very poor water quality which, amongst other things, will aggravate the problem with their eyes and may lead to infection.

There's a sticky at the top of this section that explains how to calculate the tank size required, and there's a link to an excellent article on filtration which is something else you'll need.

Out of interest, did the shop give you any idea of how big these turts will grow?

Thankyou so much for all of your help and concern. The bulb has been stripped out as soon as i realised. Their eyes are slowly opening but still very poorly, so I think i'm gonna have to find a herp vet for them asap. Does anybody know if there is one in sheffield? I can only find one in Leeds.

I was told by the people in the exotic shop that the turtles would only need water as deep as their shell's are wide. So with this in mind, i thought i'd put too much water in! The tank I bought for them was recommended for my 2 babies, I was told that in 5 years they'd outgrow it and i would need to buy a much larger one. They apparently grow to a max of 12in dependant on sex, but they didn't tell me this. I've only found this out due to researching ways to make my little ones better. Now I can see of course that I need a larger tank.
