I think there were snappers being given away on here quite recently.

I keep a common snapper. We raised it from a baby. She now has a shell length of 14 inches. She has her own "pond" made from a 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. It is all above ground, and the tank has a plug on one side at the bottom for easy drainage.
We keep some floating water plants in there (she tears up any potted ones) and small fish to keep the mosquitos at bay. I rarely need to change the water, though I'll drain the bottom bit from time to time and top it off, or drain off some after a big rain. She is very happy and healthy in there. I live in the USA, in South Carolina, so our winters are mild, rarlely gets below 15 degrees. She always has overwintered outside above ground. Sometimes she gets ice over the top, it never bothered her. this is a cheap, safe, durable alternative to a big tank. You could add a filter if you wanted. |

That sounds like a good size for this species, for UK readers that's approx 1100 litres or 250 Imperial Gallons.
