I know what you're saying but the council in this area are none too keen on flyers being put on posts ets..but I assure you I am a very responsible person, and although I would love to own the teeny weeny little thing I am not selfish enough not to search for the true owner.

Have you called your local police station to file a 'found' and ask if anypone has reported a 'lost'? It's the first thing I did when Horatio was brought to me. People might not go to the vet or walk near your door to see the poster. The first thing I'd do if I lost Horatio is call the police to report him missing.

I think that's a horrible thing to say. Someone may be frantic about it. They may not be experts in tort' care and put her out in the sunshine thinking they were doing the right thing not understanding how much of escape artists they can be. I would consider myself to be totally arrogant if I assumed that just because I kept parrots, or dogs, or tortoises, that nobody else knew as much or cared as much or were able to give as good a home as I could.
The very idea that Sue might be doing just enough to salve her concience, but not go all out to find the person she belongs to, makes me very very uncomfortable.

And we don't know that. The tort may well belong to someone who cares very much and is beside themselve with worry, imagining it lost and afraid, or starving, wondering where their little pet is and here we are judging them when not one of us knows how it came to be found wandering. It might have a very caring and loving home. The fact that they put it outside in the sunshine to get some fresh greenstuff and enjoy the weather, doesn't indicate to me that the owners are horrible, animal abusers who deserve to lose their pet to someone who will love it more and care for it far better than they do.

Well yes, they can be expected to call the police and log it as a found animal. There is also an online organisation called 'petsearch' which logs lost and found pets and places advert's in local papers aswell as online.

Has the bubbling and wheezing stopped?

I read the thread and couldn't find much mention of it aside from the beginning, if the poor thing was kept in a fish tank overnight, the humidity would have been at 100% (thank god it didn't drown!!) which could have induced, especially if the animal was already weakened by being lost for who knows how long without the correct diet, a respiratory infection - this could need antibiotics from a vet to clear up.

Do the police still get involved with lost and found? I know they have stopped doing things as far as dogs are concerned.

Arent petsearch only used if an animal is microchipped?

Petsearch is for all animals.I think you are getting confused with Petlog who deal with microchipped animals. The Police still keep a Lost and Found list they just dont kennel strays anymore
