Angry naughty tortoise tries to eat stones

whenever my tortoise is outside he always seems to find stones and tries to eat them. I have removed two from his mouth already today

how can I stop this?

you need to provide him with a cuttlefish bone and extra calcium. in the wild they naturally chew on bones and faeces to up there intake of calcium. throw a cuttlebone in and hopefully will stop him stone munching. some torts prefer the cuttlefish "weathered" and muddy though!

The simplest way to stop it would be to remove any stones small enough for him to eat from his enclosure

The issue of 'high' tortoises is not quite as far fetched as it sounds. I fed my critters loads of bind weed last autumn - it's a mild hallucinogen. Chances are they were out of their tiny little minds from late august till the end of October (a bit like their owner)

They need small stones in their stomachs to help whith digestion and grind up the food. So there is no reason to worry, I have seen mine eat small stones on occasion.
