Angry Redfoot Not Eating

Balders has stopped eating. Even fruit. Although she munched some banana the other day. Ive not seen a poo for weeks. Maybe a month or so.
Ive let her outside a couple of times while we have the warm weather and she will munch on leaves then. But as soon as she is indoors she will not eat at all :o( Unfortuantly I do not have the set up to leave her outside while im at work.
She has had no calcium for weeks either.
Im thinking some T-Rex food until she gets her appetite back.
She has lost about 50 grams in weight too.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,

What is the set up like now and temps? Have you changed anything? It seems a long time to go without a poo, maybe you just havn't seen them?Seems quite a bit of weight loss too I would be a little concerned too.Put her out as much as possible, can't you knock a temperary pen together that is escape and predator proof?

Regards,

I don't mean to be rude saying this but you posted on 15th April that you had taken your tort to the vet, been told he had hepatitis and had been given anti-biotics. Are you now saying that since that time your tort still hasn't really improved enough to have eaten properly? 50g weight loss seems an excessive amount - how much did your tort weigh before? Did your vet do any tests to ascertain whether your tort had the herpes virus or was it just treated on symptoms? Has your tort ever been wormed? A heavy parasite load can cause annorexia.

I know before you were experimenting with different lights - are you sure your basking temps are high enough now? It seems odd that the tort will eat when outside in the sunshine but not indoors.

Your tort seems to have had problems for a long time now... prior to being taken to the vets in April you were posting about eye problems. If things still haven't improved I'd be taking him back to the vet and asking for poo and blood samples to be done so that you can get to the bottom of his problems once and for all.

Sorry if my post sounds harsh but his problems do seem to have been going on for a long time.

**Edit**
Is the vet you're using a reptile/tortoise specialist? If not let us know and hopefully someone can recommend one who is in your area.

Hi Tina,
Your post is not harsh, the more info the better.
The vet was apparently a reptile specialist. They diagnosed her with Heps via symptoms without any blood tests or stool samples.
The eye problem is a lot better now. The temps are perfect (Pretty much always had the basking temp between 88-95 Deg C ) and the humidity seldom drops below 60% now. Ive worked out that its the sand and soil that is getting into her eyes that causes her the problem, so ive ordered some more orchid bark. Im chucking the sand and soil out. (This was 70% soil, 30% sand)
The 'not eating' is a new thing. She used to lurve dandilions but now she just walks by them. Unless they are outside and near an animal turd. She wont touch cuttle fish. She even turns her nose up to strawberries now. Im growing some weeds that I bough off BlondeSarah so hopefully by next week I can try a crop of them.
In the pet shop (sigh) she was raised on a diet of lettuce, cucumber and tomato and she was mixed with Leopards too.
If theres any more info I can think of ill post more. Like I said I dont read anything as harsh. The more info I share maybe a solution can be found what I am doing wrong.
Cheers,
Back to the vets, The nearest one that anyone on here has recomended is in Tarporley I think, which is a fair distance away.

Id love to keep her outside but I have no electrics outside, I would have to run an extension lead out to the pen, which means leaving a window open...

I can't leave my redfoots outside when we aren't about either. Have you tried putting various food near Balders when she is outside? Is she continuing to lose weight?

Hi , I am not far from you and the nearest vet to you is in chorlton not Tarporley . The vet is a reptile specialist and you need to make an appointment with Aidan or Molly both specialist . ITs Ashleigh vet number is 0161 881 6868 . They are open til seven .

You cannot diagnose hepatitis without blood samples/endoscopy. Go to tarporley and go and see Kevin Eatwell. He is probably the best tortoise vet in the country. Your tortoise could be quite ill so dont hang about

I also suggest bathing her to see if that stimulates her to poo and eat ,
