Post British Chelonia Group

As I delve into more research, I came across this help sheet from the British Chelonia Group.

Native: Whatever is available in their natural habitat.
Captive: These tortoises eat the largest variety of foods of seemingly any other tortoise. All fruits and vegetables, both fresh, cooked, tinned or de-frosted, soaked dog and cat pellets. In particular exotic fruits should be tried like melon, watermelon, peach, grapes, apricots, orange, papaya, cantaloupe. They readily accept apples, pears and plums in their diet. Try them on lettuce, cress, cucumber, carrot (grated or cooked), corn on the cob, clover, dandelion. Feeding will take place at any time of the day or night if light is provided and heat and water are available.

Cited from this website British Chelonia Group: THE SOUTH AMERICAN TORTOISES.

Half of this contradicts what im beiong told to feed her?? Lettuce? Soaked dog and cat pellets???

I can't comment on the diet as I don't have redfoots but it has been said that the BCG caresheets are a little out of date especially with respect to dietary requirements.

Hi don't worry too much about all that you read, some care sheets are well out of date or just have different ideas.Lettuce comes in all different kinds, don't feed iceberg but there are lots of other lettuce type leaves you can feed. Some people feed redfoots soaked low protein dry cat food but i don't.

There is a lot of stuff in that list that isnt suitable for my Hermann and Marginated. I do use different lettuce leaves but avoid Iceberg.

This list was specifically for Redfoots. They do have another section for other torts, but alot what I see seems to be telling me completly different from what I have learned on this forum :os
