Default Turtle Rescue ID please

Can anyone ID these turtles (Graham perhaps?) or confirm their ID? I was given them to rehome as "florida cooter". And also sexes? They seem healthy enough at first glance.

As you know I am not a great turtle person!

First turtle -

Second turtle -

They are up for rehome in the shelled classifieds if anyone is interested after the ID is confirmed

Top one is a male YBS, bottom one is female and definitely a cooter, quite likely a Florida Cooter as you've been told but possibly a Hieroglyphic.

Thanks graham, should these be housed seperate or will they be ok going together as if not compatable I will look into rehoming them seperately.

Well they have more or less the same habitat requirements and similar diets, although the cooter would be more of a veggie, so from that point of view they'd be fine together.
More of an issue would be the male trying to mate with the female, it might be fine but 1:1 isn't a good ratio and she might get too much attention, it probably won't bother him that she's a different species!
The other issue could be size, they're fairly big already and the cooter will grow a lot bigger, so they're going to need pretty big setups even if they're kept singly, worth mentioning to any prospective new keeper.

Thanks, I will ensure that any prospective new keepers has done the research and has the space to house these - never that easy to rehome but if anyone is interested please PM me.

These will be my 8th and 9th turtle rehomes of similar size this year

The male YBS could almost be fully grown, but the female cooter could easily grow to twice her current length, and they are very bulky turts as adults.
It's possible to keep sliders outdoors year-round in a suitable pond, but the cooter would need indoor accommodation for the winter months, either a very large tank or an indoor pond.
The number of turts for rehoming seems to be on the rise again, I've taken on 5 myself and found new homes for at least half a dozen others so far this year.
