Newly hatched they are about 3/4" SCL, at the time that photo was taken mine was 1" and it's now 1 1/8" SCL.

I don't think they'd get stressed in a large aquarium, after all no home aquarium is going to be as big as the ones they live in in the wild from day one!

But from the point of view of keeping them in captivity a small tank is better to start with otherwise you may never see it, mine is in a 24" tank and sometimes I have to look for several minutes to find it, and there aren't that many places for it to hide!

Ahhh right thanks for that

I'll probably get a smaller tank then for a few months, then gradually move it up..?

Yes, a 24 x 12 x 12 should be OK for at least a year though, they're quite slow growers compared to other species and take years to attain full size, which is only 4-5".
