Default So annoying!!!

I've been searching for about 2months for another Russian tortoise but there aren't any within a 100miles!
I found a man selling hatchlings in the local paper but he sounded a little suspicious so I stayed away from him, i've contacted a lady in Wiltshire (the nearest to me) and she said she just sold her last and won't be breeding this year because she feels that there are a lot of hatchlings around already! -WHERE???
I went back to the petshop where I bought my tortoise from originally thinking he might have done a little research in the past couple of years but was wrong. He had 2 little torts trying to hide under newspaper and feeding on baby-corn, they had very lumpy shells and looked a little 'roughed up' (like when donatello dug his way under the patio and scratched his shell in loads of places). They tugged at my heart strings and I wanted to buy them, but remembered what somebody on here told me about buying one and another two being captured, I asked how old they were and he said 'I don't know because they aren't licenced, but i'll guess about 2' which means they aren't from a breeder. Anywho, going off of the point... Sorry..

I've read every breeders list that I can find on the net and they are all really far away, soooo... Would anyone be willing to meet me half way for me to buy one???? I don't mind what age but it has to be a Russian/Horsfield...I'm hoping somebody may be able to help - even if it's to pass on more names or put me in contact with somebody they know.

Cheers

P.S. I know this has a 'wanted' bit in it so should be put in the classifieds but thought it might get noticed more on here!

Have you got the TPG breeders list? That's the biggest list on the net.

That's where i got the lady from Wiltshire from who isn't going to hatch any this year. The closest to me on that list is still about 140miles away.

I don't see the problem with a bit of travel. I know for a fact there is a breeder who has some available in Kent. OK it's a day out but you could bomb up the M4 & whizz round the M25 (well maybe not whizz) and be there in 2 / 3 hrs.

The problem is that I don't drive and it's convincing my husband to take me, by the time I talk him around all the torts will be sold

The fuel is the reason my husband wasn't willing to travel all the way, and the fact that we have nobody to look after out 20month old son, that would be a long trip for him also. I don't mind paying a little extra for a tortoise if the breeder is willing to travel.
I have found a a site on the web, it's a company called the tortoise shop, they say they have experience and that the tortoises are all from the UK, they also deliver... Does anyone know if they are good or not? I would do this as a last (and i mean ultimate last) resort.

I don't think i'd ever actually get a 'mail order tort' just had a moment of desperation lol, and I would like to check a tort over before I buy one. I'll just have to wait and see what happens over the next few months, what is meant to be will be!
