i keep my adult leopard tortoises in a heated insulated shed all year, in the winter they warm up under heat lamps for up to 4 hours(only 2 in the summer) then i open their hatch giving them the option to go out and graze for a time, it is very few days in winter when at least a couple of them dont go out, during the winter their diet is supplemented by a tray of weeds but in summer they often rely on what they can forage in their enclosure .i feel that exercise plays a big part in their continued good health and well being.some of these i have had since hatchlings, purchased 12 years ago in the UK.
