James could be right about the ID, he has the advantage of being refreshed after a long holiday, while some of us have been working hard and are knackered!

Gosh, I hope you'll be posting photos of that in the over 18 section!

Hey I'll be doing four days this week!, and it was only a three week holiday. Anyway yes, I assure you it's a Cooter, and as a female it'll end up one large turt!

Just like you have Slider subspecies (Red Eared, Yellow Bellied, Cumberland etc), there's also Cooter subspecies (Florida Red Belly, Peninsula, Eastern River etc)

Knowing the turts that are commonly imported, I'd say it's either a Eastern River Cooter (Pseudemys concinna concinna) or a Hieroglyphic River Cooter (Pseudemys concinna heiroglyphica). Female river cooters have been known to reach over 16" in shell length alone (real tank busters!)

You don't need a UV, just a lot more plants. If you get floating plants that cover the surface, such as Duckweed and lilies (both of which they'll also eat) they will block the light that green algae needs to live.
Also plant a big clump of reeds, these will absorb the nitrates in the water before the algae does and your water will be clear naturally.
