Default gravid leopard runny nose

hey guys, my gravid female has still not laid and has now developed a slightly runny nose. the discharge is clear and there is NOT alot of it, just around the outside of her nares and not enough to drip. it has been lovely and warm in the greenhouse and all of the others are fine.

any ideas?? is it stress due to being gravid and being in a new place? she is still eating and drinking pooing and movinga round.

I think you need to e-mail Ed and pm Terry see what they say - what your saying seems visable - wipe it and see if it continues to run.

hi Ali have you confined her in any way because its been a while now and she may need a break, my own girl still hasnt laid so i have put her back in the main enclosure for the weekend if she doesnt try digging soon i may get her xrayed just in case i missed the clutch and she has already laid.then if she hasnt i will need to try offering another choice for nest site.are you sure this is a ruunny nose as its far to serious to ignore, keep a close eye on her. being gravid is stressful for them although i cant say i have heard of any getting a runny nose from it.

i dont think its a RI . its just a damp nose, no bubbles and no drips just damp around her nares. my husband went and turned over the nesting site yesterday and he got 18 inches down and there was no eveidence that the ground had been disturbed. i have locked her in the greenhouse today hoping that the warmth will not only dry up her nose but that the solitude will encourage her to lay. is that alright? any other advice?

Apparently some times a little bit of foreign material can cause a runny nose. You could try washing the nares.

Well... this is common with some of my leopards when it is hot and humid outdoors. If they are acting normal in everyway... I don't worry about it but I do watch them.

My only concern is that when it is runny this is going to be your best chance of transmission of anything considering the first thing these guys do when they meet is touch nose to nose.

In your case this has probably happened. You have to weigh out if you want to get so fanatical as to seperate them out or accept certain risks in the name of breeding and the like.

it is hot out there at the moment ed. i am not worried about it being an infection as such, but obviously it still concerns me. the others are all plodding around outside and she is inside the greenhouse, she has just had a bath, lots to drink and is eating her dinner. she is acting normally in every other way. i have shut the doors over in the hope that it may encourage her to lay. she is sniffing at the ground, and she has been seen digging a little bit over the last week or so.

Keep in mind that if it is too hot she might not like the green house as a place to lay.
