Default any nice ornamental grasses??

hey guys, i have spent the day cleaning out the tortoises garden and trimming the trees. i have lots of floor space now and i am going to the garden centre tomorow toget some new grasses. just wondered if anybody had any recomendations? i have a few bronze and golden carex already, as well as a pampas, and i am getting some blue festuca. does anybody have any or know of any others that will be suitable??

Gosh that sounds energetic for someone 9 months pregnant! Nesting instincts?

Don't know if this list is any use but it does have some grasses listed on it:

Edible Landscaping

I got some grasses from the garden centre for the boys enclosure, cant remember what they are though. I will have a look in the morning.

All I can remember is I got them in Homebase and they are small fine grasses.

dont know about nesting, just boredom i think!

last summer i was out in the garden for 8 hours a day sorting out the veg and the tortoises. this year its 15 minutes at a time and i need to sit down for a cold drink! cant wait to get this little one out so i can start some serious planting and re-landscaping. i have a cunning plan to build some decking with a tortoise tunnel underneath to connect the two grazed areas. the kids dont really need a play area do they?!

one of the good points about having the bigger tortoises is that i dont have a giant panic attack when i see alex ( my 4 year old) lying on the grass feeding a bit of dandy to the torts. when i had baby hermanns, he would sneak into the bedroom, open the tortoise table and "brum" the tortoise like it was a car. we caught him doing it once and i went ape. he didnt do it again but i was always worried cos they are sooooo small. we now have locking tortoise tables and he is only allowed to help with the bigger ones!

and when billy was here, alex was allowed full access to him. he would feed him grass and when billy had had enough of alex, he would push him over and walk away. he soon learnt that the tortoises need to be respected!

Are you still able to see Billy Ali - he sounds a right character!!!

You are keeping busy - hope you get it all done before the baby arrives - which sounds like it will be sooner rather than later - dont forget to post pics of the tortoise garden when you have finished planting.

My enclosure comes on thursday so I'll be looking for ideas !!!!!!!!

yes i still see him. i took him in for a friend of a friend on a short term fostering. we had him for about six months and were trying to sell him on his original owners beahlf. luckily he went to a great home with no other animals and plenty of space. he was really a great animal, personality wise he was fabulous. he would come in the house when the back door was open and try to climb the stairs. they arent scared of anything! but he did get locked in the downstairs toilet after the door shut on him and he destroyed the skirting board, ripped the wallpaper off and completely ruined the plaster along one wall trying to tunnel through it to get out. abd my toilet still wobbles. cost me over £140 to fix it all up.

they can get out of the strongest ebclosures and a normal shed will have to be reinforced to stop them tunneling out of it. its not unusual for them to try to dig, Billy staarted to tunnel in the garden and i was petrified we wouldnt be able to findhim! some people say there sully NEVER tunnels or digs but billy loved it. my other juvenile sulcy never digs. according to some sites they can go 6ft down . no way could i afford to repare that damage!
