i know that its said before but a Sulcatta is a HUGE commitment. they can not live in the house at all once they reach 10 inches or so. they are destructive, the males are VERY sexually active, eat for england and poo more than a rotty.

if you want a sulcatta then i would suggest getting your shed setup before you get it. even a baby will rapidly grow way too big for a table. they are very destructive as they are soooo inquisitive. I had a temporary adoptee called billy, he was 14"scl and i just couldnt handle him for the longterm. he aggressively chased my male rotty, ate ANYTHING and pood more than both rottys put together. plus his willy was his way of expressing his "happiness" and he was happy ALOT. he would deposit approx a litre of fluid at a time, two to three times a day. and approx 90% of sulcs in this country are male. he ate a carrier bag of weds and hay a day. he was approx 5 years old. they are a wonderful species but until you have seen an adult sulcatta, you cant appreciate just how big they grow. they are the same size as your average coffee table and much heavier. you will need to think about how you will get a 40kg tortoise to the vet. and where your vet will keep him, if he has to stay in.

you will need a shed atleast 8x6ft for one sulcatta but as they grow up to 3 ft long that hardly gives him room to turn around. i would suggest a grazing area of atleast 5m x 5m exclusluvely for the sulcs , as well as a greenhouse for winter grazing. they can be teritiorial, so kids and dogs cant play in the area.

if you have all of that space, the time and the patience, then go for it. if not, get a leopard, much prettier, half the size and just as entertaining!

our shed is 12x8foot and the garzing area is no problem either as our garden after the horsfields section is 23x20
as for andys mate his garden is massive its like a football pitch,2x mine
ali i would much prefer a leo o love them but if i started u couldnt stop with them lol,.

Do Sulcatas get bigger than Aldabras or are they about the same size?

i know there is a breeder in essex, dont know if thats any good to you. i do love the sulcs, they are pretty fearless. if i had ALOTmore space i would have kept billy long term. but i am glad i have decided to focus on the leos as outdoors torts, with just a few others in movable enclosures.

well you can expect that clotted cream ever single day, Billy produced a litre of water waste every day as well as his male "happiness" waste. that cottage cheese is the sulc equivalent of urates and they make alot of it. think a large yoghurt pot, and billy was only 14"! its quite scary....
