Default Best MV Bulb?

My uv tube is ready for replacing and after reading how impressed a lot of you are with the combined mercury vapour bulbs I've decided to replace with one of them. Just been looking at reviews and it's still unclear to me which ones are the best (Exo Terra Solar Glo, Zoomed Powersun, T-Rex or Megaray). I remember reading that some of you had problems with one of them but can't remember which. Recommendations please.

i use powersun 160w. i have used them for years and cant fault them. BUT i am thinking of changing some to megaray as others have said they are slightly better than powersuns. megarays are cheaper i believe.

what size area is it for?? i know alot of tortoise people worry about using them in tables, even the 100w ones. but i use a 160w in a 4 ft glass vivformy bearded dragon with no ill effects whatsoever. i have also used them on tort tables and think for indoors, they are just about the best thing you cant get..

It's the 100w I'm looking at for a table which is 3ft x 2ft. Another reason I'm thinking of changing is that the basking area was big enough for one hatchling but now I have three in there it's not really big enough and they're all crowded up.

100w Mega-Ray will do a great job. Decay on these bulbs in less than 30% over the life of the bulb, they have a great UVA range also which the tortoises love.

Thanks for the replies on this everyone, it was really helpful. I'm just about to order the Mega Ray 100w can someone tell me which size clamp lamp I need - 5.5" or 8.5" (Zoo Med ones). Also ordering the lamp stand... has anyone used these? Are they any good?

Personally I wouldn't use a Clamp Lamp, the bulb is quite big and protudes from the shallow Clamp Lamp shade which doesn't offer it much protection. If you do use a Clamp Lamp then go for the biggest one, the small ones are a tight fit and the lack of airflow around the bulb can lead to overheating and cutting out.

The T-Rex Dome holder is much better, or a poultry heat lamp holder at about half the price (but less attractive IMO!).
