I think its wrong that shops or whatever sell animals that are not looked after properly whilst in their care. In a lot of cases (but not nearly enough) when owners mistreat their animals they get in the crap, yet shops/businesses etc can do the same and yet make a living out of it.

People should do their research so they can provide the proper care for their new purchases and not buy them from places like that. Was anyone else up through the night trying to save a turtle that was dying because of some other idiot? No?

Bigmouth I salute you!

This might help you along...

Some folks have this idea that they are better than others. I don't know if that is the case here but it would seem that the internet and chats like this give people a venue without thinking (I do feel like a hypocrite here).

In this case (the case of the little turtle) it does not seem like much thought was put into it. Here is a person in the trade slagging off a customer.

Think about this... not all juveniles were meant to survive. That is obviously a hatchling... the shop owner could have been more forthcoming but thats not the issue here.

... still wrong.

to this... there are good and bad.

We really don't know if this is the bad with the information available.

You're right... my experience is limited...

2 years in retail working in a reptile specialty shop(1978-1979) and then working for a wholesaler(1979-1981)... that's when I thought the herp industry was bullocks.

I've always kept my foot in it...

Anyway... you seem to be going off on a rant.

I dont think Bigmouth is ranting at all. I think he (I assume he is a he) is just backing up what they said in their original thread.

Okay putting the names of the other shop was wrong but they have been deleted now so we dont know who he is talking about.

If someone is truly passionate about the animals they keep and im not saying that anyone here isnt, when something like this happens it is very upsetting. Here I can speak from experience as I rescued small animals for over 15 years and its heartbreaking when you see a small innocent animal suffering and can do nothing to help.

I dont blame Bidmouth for starting this thread, I think its good that people find out that these places exist and that they can have the opportunity to ask the thread starter who they are.

Better that these places are avoided and that people go to the people who really know what they are talking about.

Bigmouth I commend you, you did what you could and for that WELL DONE Its just sad that the poor little turtle didnt survive.

your right it was a rant ed! playing devils advocate with something someone feels passionate about sort of puts the heckles up plus the insinuation it was out monetary gain rather than the care for turtles!!
