Default Advice please

Hi

We have now had our Horsfiled for a couple of days and it seems he is settling in well, not hiding under his log but out and about exploring.
Problem is that it seems he is trying to get out. As he is in a vivarium I have put stuff around the sides so he can't see out but I think he can still see his reflection or maybe a shadow in the glass, especially under the lamp as he is digging against the sides.
What would be the safest thing that I can out around the inside so that he can't see a reflection ???

thanks x

Hi and
The First thing that I would suggest would be to take him out of the vivarium. Tortoise dont really thrive in Vivs because the humidity can somtimes get too high, The preferred choice is a tortoise table - basically a long wooden box with no top. Until you change to a table, you can take the doors out or tip the viv on its side to provide adequate ventilation

no its because he is in a vivarium, which heats up and doesnt cool down so he will over heat and eventually die

put him in an indoor rabbit cage mate, a lot healthier

We are looking into sorting a table thing rather than the viv, we bought it as a kit from the shop as it had all the other gear in there as a job lot. When we have sorted the shelter we will either sell the viv or find another use for it.

We weren't told about the table by the shop, probably for obvious sales reasons, but the guy did mention that once the tort had settled in and was doing ok it might be worth having a look into getting something else, especially when he gets a bit bigger

I forgot to add that the viv has a mesh top and we have opened the door at the cool end to make sure there is some decent airflow, since doing that he seems to be a lot more lively

we have only had him for a couple of days and haven't sorted out any king of enclosure for him in the garden yet, that will be the weekend diy job methinks.
He is approx 2 years old, is that too young?
Also we both work full time so are not at home very much during the day, even though I will make sure an outside enclosure is secure I doubt I will leave him out when we aren't here as there are numerous cats, my neighbour has about 20 of them!!!
