Hi Randomapple

I am relativewly new to this forum and I have a 2 year old Horsfield
He does seem to sleep a fair bit during the day but I am guessing that it is a combination of that I have only had him just over a week and have been working so not had as much chance as I wanted to watch his daily routine. However when he (I am fairly sure mine is a he) is up and about he seems to wander around quite happily and is eating well, he even enjoys his baths.
I did have the lamp a bit too low which was making the basking area too hot which probably did lead to him hiding away a bit, aestivation is the proper term.
So as long as yours is eating well and when is out and about seems fairly lively I wouldn't worry too much.
There are lots of friendly people on here with loads of good advice.

thanks[/quote Well all mine seem to love having their shells stroked, and stand still with their heads in the air, so yes I would say they can most definately feel and enjoy it.
