Question Terrapins Vs Fish

i have terrapins in a 4ft tank with an external filter that does a smashing job and im wondering if i should but some ... fish in the tank with them , the pet shop down the road has neons for sale @ £5 for 10 and they are pretty small and fast so will keep them entertained ,,, but i dont want to keep going in asking for 10 neons like every month or week as they may refuse or get suspicious

also are these good fish to put in ?

im also hoping they make the tank look smarter but i also feel like its cruel as the fish has like , no chance and they just get eaten alive...

what should i do

to buy or not to buy?

From a purely personal opinion I wouldn't put neons in with terrapins, or any other fish really. If you get a breeding colony set up then you shouldn't have to keep going to replace them as they'd be doing that themselves [although you would need to add fresh blood in every now and then], but it's pretty likely they'll be snacked upon by your terrapins. They could make your tank look prettier, but I doubt it would look smarter.

As for the pet shop getting suspicious, unless it's a very good shop I doubt they'll put much thought into someone buying cheap fish every month or so.

Does the terrapin need them? No.

Should you? No.

You don't say what species of terrapins you have? Some species are more likely to leave fish alone than others, some will just eat anything they can catch.
