Hi everyone,
I'm looking to purchase the smallest aquatic turtle possible. I've heard rumors of purchasing "Penny Turtles" at Flea Markets, but I've also heard that "penny" is just a term for hatchling, so they obviously don't stay that size. Could anyone recommend a small aquatic turtle that STAYS small? thanks in advance ![]() |

.......and especially if it's a female, it's only the male maps that stay under 6", the females can exceed 10" ,and at that size they're very bulky too.

yeah musk turtles. remember that you need 40 litres of water per inch of the turtles shell. so if 2" then you need 80 litres

Yours would be very unusual if it stays at 4" though, they average around 8" fully grown but can exceed 12", not very often admittedly but it does happen.
The only species guaranteed not to grow big are the Musks, with the Common Musk being the smallest at around 4-5", Razorback and Loggerhead Musks get a bit bigger.
