did you just pick the nettles and give the torts them (after washing of course) or did you do something to get rid of the sting?
I have read that torts can eat them and like them but haven't tried as i don't want them to get stung

i am a big softie really

well...... i actually picked them with my bare hands and they didnt sting me so im wondering if its just the stem that carries the sting.

I just washed them off in water.

I dont think nettles sting a tortoise they dont have the same reaction to them as we do.

if they do i may have to give them dock leaves for pudding lol

Thanks Marky, I am getting a bit low on weeds and stuff (still waiting for the weed seeds to grow) and the neighbours are giving me odd looks when I wander about picking weeds, they think I am odd already though so it isn't too bad
I do have an abundance of nettles so I might try them

Are you sure that yours aren't the non-stinging nettles markyd3? They do look very similar.

If you are going to feed stinging nettles then it's recommended that you only feed the young leaves sparingly - as the older leaves contain something which can irritate the kidneys and all the leaves contain oxalic acid. Rinsing them in warm water gets rid of the sting.

tbh im not sure..... i just remember reading that nettles were ok for torts.

they didnt sting me when i picked them so i assumed they were ok plus i thought nettles wouldnt sting a tort anyhow?

I shall certainly rinse them in warm water next time if thats what people reccomend!!

any more opinions would be greatly appreciated because like incrisis i am waiting for weed seeds to grow and am running very low on weeds...... but do have nettles in abundance!!
