i may have taking 2 of the comment wrong but im a bit fed up today so here goes.

you should probably be posting your dislike of captive quantity's to things like burms rather than snapping turtles.

---

i guess i care because i dont want to chuck a female with female or male with male, because i dont think mating works like that.
unless where you come from?

As was mentioned... you are looking for an animal with the vent closer to the tip of the tail. If you find an animal that size it should be obvious.

If you are really into this you might want to check out this book...

Biology of the Snapping Turtle, A. Steyermark, M. Finkler and R. Brooks, John Hopkins Press, 2008.

take no offence at the end of the day your own person and will do what you want someone posting on a website isnt going to stop you was just giving you MHO, i wont rehome the snappers as i have a no rehoming policy on them....

and no way are they breedable size!! in the wild a female wont breed to around 19years old and taking that these beauts can live to 93 years of age! my girl is around 30cm + (across) and this is the min size i would ever consider breeding at.

I've got a photo of a 12 inch snapper nesting... she dropped more than 25 eggs. That was a northern snapper. Florida Snappers are smaller than that. The snapper photographed was found nesting in the wild.

As with most chelonians... size matters... not age.
