Te rule of thumb is enough leaves to cover it's shell per day. You don't have to soak it but give it a good wash.
It's a good idea to sprinkle some sort of calcium supplement to the food daily and vitamin supplement 2-3 times a week.
Remember it's not what you feed him it's the quality and nutritional value - the more weeds the better!!!
You will find that your don't have to chop it up very small - nobody does this for them in the wild! My i year old happily munches away on whole leaves, I only cut up the really big ones.
Hope this helps

I dont go by that im afraid, i feed my tortoises once a day and take note of growth and weight gain, if hatchlings and sub adult.

For adults i feed as much as they want normally twise a day if they are still hungry. Adults have finished growing.

Food is not the only thing that causes pyramiding its environment and hydration.

I try to give only weeds wich isn't too difficult at the moment as they are everywhere and only supplement with lettuce etc when necessary - If giving lettice wash very carefully to remove any preservatives (especially if out of a bag) Mines loves lambs lettice, romaine lettice and watercress.

What tortosie are you getting.

I feed at a huge amount of very mixed leafy greens (weeds/flowers) to all my tortoises which they usually have access to through the day, if your heating and hydration are in place correctly and the animal has access to a good source of UVB then digestion and growth will be even and fast.

Ive seen your tortoises darren and they are very smooth. I think too many people starve their tortoises. But its hard for new tortoise keepers to know what to do.

Obviously I too weigh and measure him regularly and alter the amount fed accordingly - but as a general guideline this works for me as a new owner myself, especially as it takes a fews weeks at least to get a trend re weight etc
