Default Dozy tort

How much do torts need to sleep?

I ask this as my 2 one year old Horsfield's are very different
Lurpak, the smaller of the 2 will usually wake up before 10 but Hoji the larger tort will sleep in late!

Today, Lurpak was awake and up at about 7.30am. I went home from work at 12.30pm and Lurpak was still busying around whilst Hoji was still asleep from the night before!

Is this pretty normal?

I presume that as they are still babies they will sleep more than adults. They have spent all day inside today as well as the weather today here in Wigan is terrible. I have noticed that Hoji is much more active outside.

Also Hoji doesn't eat as much as Lurpak who will stuff his little face. Is this OK as well?

My 1 year old horsfield is a lazy bugger too - he usually stirs about 9-10ish but doesn't really do much - he'll have a wander for a bit in the afternoon then go back to sleep. He usually wakes up quite a bit around bath time but is dug in for a nights kip by 7ish!!!
He too is more active when outside - I think he finds it more interesting than on boring inside days like today

My bigger Hermanns - Georgie is on the go all day and generally turns in for bed about 7ish.

My two Marginateds though are lazy devils, they eat/sleep during the day and have been tucked up asleep now for the last hour.

Ginny my smallest Hermann is currently asleep but she tends to wakeup for a short period before finally settling down to the night.

So it does vary from tort to tort.

I have a Horsefield and she does the same sort of thing, she is 9-10 months old and she stirs after the lights have been on for half an hour, in the morning, then she goes under the basking light, then goes for a munch, then goes back to basking light and sleeps, I go to work and when I get home about 4.30pm shes taken herself back to bed head first. I wake her up and put her outside if weather's nice and she munches and walks around then bath and bed about 7.30 ish. When lights go out. But my Herman is awake before lights go on and he walks around before basking, and hes normally asleep under basking light when I get in from work, but he comes up to the glass to be let out. Its like he knows its time to go outside for a munch.

I am so glad to have found this website. I brought my Horsefied ' Harold' 2 weeks ago and he has fully settled into his new home. The only thing worrying me was he sleeps alot. After reading this and the TT book i have come to the conlclusion that horsefields are just a little more chilled out and enjoy a good rest like the rest of us.
