Default Sensitive hearing?

Do they have sensitive hearing at all? Will loud noises like a vacuum cleaner really bother them or hurt there ears? Thanks.

They are sensitive to low frequency sounds. I saw a talk recently on Gopher tortoises where it is suspected that they communicate using low frequency sound... Ray Ashton gave the talk.

I don't think a vacuum would hurt their ears.

This might help more... if you are into Hip-Hop and crank up the base... that would probably hurt the animal...

Frequency is the key... their ears are designed for low frequency hearing... Loud low frequency... would probably be uncomfortable to a tortoise.

My baby Sulcata gets out of bed and tells me off if I vacuum after the lights go out. When the vacuum cleaner is turned off, she goes back to bed.

If the TV is on, she doesn't bother and it doesn't keep her up. I'm guessing, as has been said, low frequency noise is the key.

I always thought that reptiles were sensitive to vibrations anyway?
